With Russians, or without them?
Article Abstract:
Paramo (Pardubice, Czech Republic), petrochemical company, expects to be privatised in 2000. The Czech government will choose from the four bidders that have qualified for the second round of the tender for Paramo. They are Unipetrol (Czech Republic), Cepramo (Czech Republic), Lukoil (Russia) and Norex Petroleum (Canada). Paramo expects its new owner to ensure the financing of a 2.5 bil Kc investment programme, which will be focused on complex petrol processing and on oil production renewal. After 2002 when new petrol units have been built, Paramo will produce lead-free Natural petrol and ensure the production of its own hydrogen for lubricating oils. Paramo's target share on the Czech petrol market is estimated at 10% at the most. In 2000 the company has a 12% share on the local diesel fuel market, planning to raise it. After acquiring Paramo, the new owner will rather obtain a chance for the future than immediate profit. Among other things, Paramo's 2000 results are influenced by increasing petroleum prices. The company saw a loss of nearly 117 mil Kc in 1Q 2000 compared to a profit of 11.5 mil Kc in 1Q 1999.
