Moody's blues
Article Abstract:
Credit-rating agencies such as Moody's are uncertain about how to rate Japan. If they reduce this country's AAA rating, then borrowing to boost the economy would become more expensive as interest rates rose to reflect the enhanced danger of default. Some observers believe that there is no justification for the rating agencies' fears, as the Japanese government has no direct foreign borrowing and the country has $900 billion of overseas assets. Others believe that rating agencies have not been quick enough to downgrade Japan.
