More justice is more just

UK Master of the Rolls Lord Woolf issued a praiseworthy document on civil justice reform on Jul 26, 1996. Lord Woolf advocates such improvements as speedier trials, reduced attorneys' fees, and better access to the courts. British policymakers should take action on Lord Woolf's recommendations.

Prime Minister John Major charged Michael Heseltine, labor secretary, with working to eliminate laws that hamper UK business. Approximately 400 outmoded regulations were deleted from the books, but few other changes have been made. A task force is studying the matter.
