Multi-mission Puma/SOCAT for Romania
Article Abstract:
The military of Romania conducted on May 26, 1998, the initial official flight of the IAR 330L/SOCAT Puma helicopter, which marks another development in the country's armed-forces-modernization initiative. The IAR 330L/SOCAT Puma helicopter has been equipped with a new weapons fit, sensor and avionics system. The IAR 330L/SOCAT Puma helicopter, which can be utilized for helicopter-escort, anti-armor, armed reconnaissance and ground-attack missions, is expected to satisfy Romania's requirement for a sophisticated armed helicopter that can be utilized for a variety of missions.

Adour completes RAF Jaguar modernization program
Article Abstract:
Rolls-Royce has landed a subcontract from British Aerospace (BAe) worth $112 million to supply its Adour Mk 106 engine for the upgrade of the UK Royal Air Force's (RAF's) Jaguar attack aircraft. The Mk 106 will replace the existing Mk 104 engine on the Jaguar, allowing the service to save about $64 million, compared to the $272-million cost for operating the older version. The RAF also expects a 29% increase in thrust following the integration of the Mk 106 with the Jaguar, which is being upgraded to serve for another 10 years.

Romania launches MiG-29 modernization
Article Abstract:
The Romanian demonstrator of an upgraded MiG-29 Fulcrum-A fighter aircraft successfully completed test flights in May 2000. The upgrade, called the MiG-29 Sniper, is joint venture between Aerostar of Romania, DaimlerChrysler Aerospace of Germany and Elbit Systems of Israel. Aerostar and its partners said that the Sniper is a cheaper alternative than the MiG-29 modernization programs proposed by other non-Russian operators of the MiG-29.
