NLC PLANS Rs6083-CRORE PROJECT TO INCREASE CAPACITY
Article Abstract:
Neyveli Lignite Corporation, a public sector undertaking in Tamil Nadu, plans to increase the capacity of its lignite mining by 11 million tonnes to 28 million tonnes and the capacity of its power plant by 920 mw to 2990 mw by the end of 2001-02 at an estimated cost of Rs6083 crore. It plans to increase the capacity of lignite Mine-I from 6.5 million tonnes to 10.5 million tonnes at a cost of Rs1337 crore and set up Mine-IA, with a capacity of 3 million tonnes, at a cost of Rs1032 crore. The company has two power stations which generate 600 mw and 1470 mw. The capacity of the 600 mw station will be increased to 1020 mw by adding two units of 210 mw each at a cost of Rs1590 crore. The expansion project will be financed by Rs1745 crore of internal accruals, a bonds issue of Rs1689 crore, budgetary support of Rs1828 crore and a soft loan of Rs821 crore from KFW of Germany. (khr)

RESERVE BANK CREATES FRESH Rs1,200-CRORE RESERVE

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has created a new reserve called the Asset Development Reserve which will have an initial corpus of about Rs1200 crore. This will be utilised to make all capital expenditures and equity contributions in its subsidiaries and associates. The RBI's associates and subsidiaries are the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, State Bank of India, Discount and Finance House of India, Securities Trading Corporation of India, National Housing Bank and the Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Pvt Ltd.
