NTPC TO RAISE RS11,000 CRORE FOR SIX PROJECTS
Article Abstract:
The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) is planning to raise Rs11,000 crore loan to fund its six new power projects with total capacity of 5,100 mw. The total cost of these projects is estimated to be Rs15,570 crore. The six new projects are; 2000 mw coal-based Talcher Stage II project (cost Rs6,665 crore), 650 mw Kawas II Stage (Rs1,694 crore), 650 mw gas-based Gandhar Stage II project (Rs1,816 crore), 500 mw Ramagundam Stage III project (Rs1,916 crore), 650 mw Anonta Stage II gas-based project (Rs1,759 crore) and another 650 mw gas-based project yet to be decided(Rs1,722 crore). The NTPC is planning to finance the projects through a combination of debt and equity in the ratio of 2.33:1. It proposes to raise debt amounting to Rs 6,918 crore during the period 1998-99 and 2001-2002. The NTPC, it is said, has offered the financial institutions a coupon bearing 14.5 percent interest, exclusive of interest tax, for the loans. The loans will be repaid in 28 quarterly installments. GOVT CLEARS NTPC'S HYDEL GENERATION PLAN
Article Abstract:
The hydel power generation project of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has been approved by the Ministry of Power of the Government of India. NTPC plans to set up an installed hydel capacity of 2,000 mw in the next 10 years. It plans to increase its total installed capacity to 32,000 mw by 2007 AD from 17,000 mw. It is negotiating with the Government of Uttar Pradesh for setting up a 330 mw hydel power project in the Maneribhali region. (gs)

NTPC ALL SET TO ACHIEVE 30,000 MW BY 2007
