Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp.'s (NTT) planned acquisition of Verio Inc. has been approved by a US government panel. The panel had raised national security concerns over the planned $5.5 billion (6.07 billion euros) deal.

AT and T is to acquire Tele-Communications Inc (TCI) and set up AT and T Consumer Services (ATT CS) which will deal with households, as well as Liberty Media, both of which are to have separate listings. There will also be a central telecoms enterprise geared to business clients. The acquisition of TCI gives AT and T local connections and access to 21 million subscribers. The network of TCI and affiliates passes by 33 million households or some third of the US total.
