NatWest Markets (NWM) are planning to introduce several new products to remain competitive in the UK management buyout market. NWM has offices in the UK, Europe and the US. NWM is able to offer clients a whole range of services and can deal with complex acquisitions. It co-underwrote the senior debt for the 360 million pounds sterling buyout of a division of Williams Holdings. It also backed Scotia Haven Group's 44 million pounds sterling purchase of Whitworths, by providing the mezzanine and senior debt. NWM is an important debt arranger for the MBO market.

NatWest Equity Partners has offices in the UK and Europe and has invested in over 750 companies. NatWest Equity Partners is one of the top UK corporate investment companies in terms of funds invested and deals undertaken. The company concentrates on transactions worth between 5-500 million pounds sterling. NatWest Equity Partners, in partnership with Aer Rianta, purchased a 40% share of Birmingham International Airport, during 1997. NatWest Equity Partners has become part of NatWest Wealth Management. It was formerly known as NatWest Ventures.

In the first half of 1996, NatWest Ventures invested 125 million pounds sterling, with average investment up to 6 million pounds, from 3 million pounds in 1995. In 1995, the company invested a total of 140 million pounds. The company manages a total of 1 billion pounds sterling, of which half is made up of funding commitments, and half by a portfolio. NatWest Ventures forecasts that 25% of 1996 investment will go to mainland Europe.
