Investment bank NatWest Markets (NWM) has seen a considerable improvement in its fortunes since the appointment of David Barclay as managing director in 1994. It was involved in a number of very large transactions in 1995, and reached equal sixth place in Acquisition Monthly magazine's 1995 league table of financial advisers for UK public takeovers ranked by number of deals. It is now looking to establish a strong presence in continental Europe and the Asia Pacific region.

Anthony McGrath joins Flemings
Article Abstract:
Corporate finance executive Anthony McGrath has resigned from investment bank Baring Brothers to become chief operating officer at finance group Flemings. McGrath, a chartered accountant, is looking forward to working in management but wants to maintain close contact with client services. He joined Barings in 1976 and spent many years working alongside fellow Flemings executive Bernard Taylor.

Dawson and Dowley from Morgans to Merrills
Article Abstract:
US investment bank Merrill Lynch has persuaded Guy Dawson and Justin Dowley to move from Deutsche Morgan Grenfell (DMG). They will be responsible for establishing a new corporate finance operation in the UK, part of plans by Merrill Lynch to become one of the leader merger and acquisition players in Europe. European merger and acquisition work is currently headed by Ed Annunziato.
