Article Abstract:
American Standard of the US is to invest US$ 6mn to set up a new plant for sanitary fittings. The plant is to start operation in 2000. The plant is part of the strategy to create one of Europe's largest manufacturing sites for sanitary fittings and ceramics in the Sewliewo region. American Standard already manufactures sanitary fittings in Sewliewo at a subsidiary called Widima Ideal. This unit was modernised in 1997 with an investment of US$ 7.3mn. Another US$ 14mn is invested in 1998. American Standard also runs a unit that produces sanitary ceramics in Sewliewo. The Ideal Standard plant has a capacity of 2.4mn units, producing 60 different products. It will reach full capacity by the end of 1998. Currently IBM is installing 150 PCs, 5 servers and SAP's R/3 software at the American Standard plants in Sewliewo. The plants will be linked to American Standard's European headquarters in Bonn, Germany.

Renault will 100%-ANteil bei Karosa
Article Abstract:
Karosa, the Czech bus manufacturer, is to invest Kc 3-4bn between 1999 and 2002 to develop new types of buses and to modernise production facilities. Karosa's main shareholder, Renault of France, is considering to build a new assembly plant in Nove Myto or a different site in Czechia. In 1997, Karosa produced 1,001 buses, and in 1998 it will manufacture 1,232 units. 50% of the output is for the local market, 25% for Renault's distribution channels, and 25% for Eastern Europe and Russia. In 1997, Karosa' s turnover was Kc 3.2bn and net profit was Kc 169mn.

Egyes lt Magyar Csomagolo veg Kft, the largest producer of glass containers in Hungary, is to invest Ft 3bn or DM 25.4mn to increase capacity and modernise the plant. DM 13mn is for new machines. The plant's capacity will grow from 320-340mn containers to about 400mn units. Demand of glass containers is about 200,000-230,000 tons per years. Two-thirds of it is supplied by the two Hungarian manufacturers, which are both owned by Owens Illinois of the US.
