New CEO at Barclays wins praise

Michael O' Neill was appointed the new chief executive officer (CEO) of Barclays PLC. Mr. O'Neill is currently the head of BankAmerica Corp.'s asset management and investment operations. The fifty-two year old O'Neill has been praised by American investors for his ability to produce value for stockholders as the chief financial officer of BankAmerica before it was merged with NationsBank Corp. Mr. O'Neill is replacing Martin Taylor who suddenly resigned in November 1998 due to strategic disagreements.
