New Zealand house prices rise from year-ago figures
Article Abstract:
The New Zealand housing market is steadily improving as the median house price reached NZ$167,000 for Jul 1999. This was an improvement over last year's figure of NZ$165,000 for the same month. However, the Jul 1999 figures were slightly lower compared to those that were recorded in Jun 1999. Analysts noted that there was conspicuous activity among potential home buyers in the market but this did not encourage them to take on large mortgages. This was attributed to New Zealand's Nov 1999 elections and rising interest rates.

Shrugging off global worries: Cheung Kong to sell flats despite Brazil woes

Thirty-two apartments in a middle-class housing development in Hong Kong's New Territories will be put up for sale on Jan 24, 1999. The flats are equally owned by Cheung Kong (Holdings) and Concord Land Development Co. The sale of the Vista Paradiso apartments at $492 per square foot, slashed in half from the project's highest selling price, comes at a time of uncertainty over global economies and as Hong Kong is struggling through an economic crisis.
