News Corp. posted a rise in net profit of 8.3% for its first half which ended on December 31, 1998. News Corp. reported A$969 million (US$625 million) in net profits for the period. During the same period in 1997, News Corp. posted A$895 million. The company's earnings were based on a 33% increase in its sales from A$8.95 billion to A$11.9 billion.
