No man is an island
Article Abstract:
Multinational companies are gradually moving away from national pay structures toward regional or global pay structures. This trend has been prompted by developments in communications technology and competition for people with scarce skills. Tax systems vary, and this can create problems for multinationals, as do variations in benefits such as pensions. Stock options can be a source of frictions when mergers occur between US companies and companies from countries such as Germany where stock options are less common.
