France still trapped
Article Abstract:
French Socialist Prime Minister Lionel Jospin might not be able to deliver most of his promises as the country's budget deficit and unemployment rate remains high. Other promises that are likely to result in failures include the Renault plant closure, the halt in privatization and the decrease in public expenditure deficit. An audit due on July 21, 1997 will reveal the extent of successes or failures.

End of the road in France: European socialists
Article Abstract:
Nearly everyone involved in French politics seems to agree that the Socialist Party is dead and a new coalition must be formed. Green party members and social democrats will probably comprise much of such a coalition. A recessed economy is mostly to blame.
