Nobel calling
Article Abstract:
The Indonesian government has made considerable efforts recently to highlight its commitment to the integration of East Timor into the rest of Indonesia. However, this approach has not been welcomed by the Nobel Committee, which decided to award the 1996 Nobel peace prize to East Timor activists Carlos Filipe Ximenes Belo and Jose Ramos-Horta in an effort to put an end to Indonesian oppression in East Timor. The decision has served to refocus international attention on the plight of East Timor.

Major flaws in flu detection
Article Abstract:
The outbreak of a deadly avian flu epidemic has highlighted the need to improve early warning systems for detection of animal-borne diseases that threaten the health of human beings. Efforts to detect and stop the disease from spreading have failed due to the lack of coordination and poor communication among veterinary specialists, international agencies and government bureaucrats.
