Nokia puskee Japanin markkinoille
Article Abstract:
Finland's Nokia is the only foreign producer on the Japanese pdc technique based mobile phone markets. The estimated total sales of pdc phones in Japan in 1998 is over 20mn pieces. The total phone sales of Nokia in 1997 amounted to 21.3mn phones. Nokia will try to differentiate their products in Japan with being fashionable. According to Nokia Japan, the Japanese phone markets function in fast product cycles. New phones are launched before the old ones have been sold out. The product quality and fast development are more important to the Japanese than short term profits. Nokia is forced to negotiate beforehand on all matters in connection with the phone production and marketing, since the Japanese operators sell most of the phones in their own shops and they decide on the phone distribution and consumer prices. Nokia cooperates with the largest Japanese mobile phone operator NTT DoCoMo.
