Nonlinear pricing of telecommunications with call and network externalities
Article Abstract:
The way a monopolist's optimal nonlinear pricing is affected by call and network externalities in two-way telecommunications markets, where consumers' valuations for outgoing and incoming calls are positively correlated and the firm is not allowed to charge incoming calls is investigated. It is shown that the presence of call externalities results in downward distortions of the outgoing call quantity for all the types of subscribers including the highest type.
