Noodle maker faces loss of wheat subsidy and a grim outlook
Article Abstract:
Indofood Sukses Makmur confronts gloomy days ahead in the aftermath of the Indonesian riots, which hit Liem Sioe Liong, the noodle-maker's owner. A Hong Kong-based fund manager was struck by the inaction of the army when Liem's house was destroyed by rioters. Liem, chairman of the Salim Group, is noted for his wealth in Indonesia. Indofood may also lose the wheat subsidy being provided by Salim Group's Bogasari Flour Mills. This would be crucial to maintaining the profit margin of Indofood as the firm relies on 40% of its costs on wheat.

Sinar Mas woes may hurt group's plans for expansion
Article Abstract:
The sudden purge of the Widjaja family from the management of PT Bank Internasional Indonesia has put the expansion plans of the Sinar Mas Group in doubt. Despite the development, analysts were inclined to believe that the scandal would not affect Sinar Mas's bigger business concerns. Among the firm's businesses, the pulp and paper sector is known for its outstanding strength and profitability.
