Norse code
Article Abstract:
A plan for a computerised medical database is to be debated in Iceland and an Icelandic biotechnology firm, called deCode genetics has proposed this move. Critics are concerned about the rights of individuals. There are details records on Iceland's inhabitants, and many also have long family trees. The company argues that a database could help the government develop health care policies as well as aiding drugs development and medical research. Financial issues relating to this plan are easier to solve than the issue of consent.

Hot-shot proteins
Article Abstract:
Heat shock proteins (HSPS) are a type of molecule that can repair proteins, and their production is affected in different ways by different diseases. Some types of diabetes are associated with low levels of HSPS, and Abbott Laboratories is funding research by Biorex into this area. HSP manipulation may also be useful in treating some types of cancer such as breast cancer and melanoma. StressGen Biotechnologies is one company researching into this area.
