Norway's Statoil offers to acquire Canadian firm

A $2.2 bil offer has been made by Norwegian petroleum company Statoil ASA for Canada's North American Oil Sands Corp. The Alberta-based firm operates a region with recoverable oil reserves totaling 2.2 bil barrels. Statoil hopes the acquisition will help it meet its 2007 production target.
