Manchester city in the UK is involving itself in larger deals than the buyout of Greater Manchester Buses South for 25 million pounds sterling four years ago. Simon White, director at NatWest Acquisition Finance believes that deals of over 100 million pounds sterling could be handled out of Manchester, and the largest deal of the year is currently the 174 million pounds sterling buyout of Target Worldwide Express. Great Universal Stores, based in Manchester, is continuing its bid for Argos, and the six top accountancy firms are all extending the PLC advisory work out of Manchester.

Birmingham looks forward

Birmingham, England, is the second biggest city in the UK and is a major manufacturing center with 20,000 firms and 140,000 employees in the sector. The city is in the West Midlands region which has benefited from a rise in UK exports. The region has experienced a rise in confidence in the year to 1995 as exports have risen. There are also a large number of law and accounting firms in the region. Foreign investment has helped create jobs, and there has been a rise in investment from Germany and the US.
