A note on returns to scale in DEA
Article Abstract:
A suggestion proffered in the 1992 article by R.D. Banker and R.M. Thrall on estimation of returns-to-scale using data envelopment analysis is modified to avoid the need to examine all alternate optima to be able to reach a decision. Use of the proposed modified approach eliminates the need for assuming that the decision making units being analyzed attained efficiency as well as eliminates the infinite solutions which Banker and Thrall contend are possible with their formulations.
