Now is the time to think about expanding overseas sourcing
Article Abstract:
US manufacturing industries are expanding their overseas sourcing. The trend is driven by factors including the increasing trade liberalization in many countries, the growing number of bilateral trade agreements, advances in supply-chain efficiencies and cheaper and easier ability to order, re-order and track product over the Internet. Even the apparel and textiles industry is taking advantage of the benefits that overseas sourcing brings such as increased profits and a competitive edge due to the ability to offer lower prices.

Maquiladoras pending changes on the horizon
Article Abstract:
The Mexican government has decided not to implement a decision that would have doubled the taxes imposed on the maquiladora industry. The decision has resulted in a 3-yr extension of the current tax law. Mexico's Commerce Secretary Herminio Blanco said the tax increase could have eliminated 1 million jobs. There are almost 4,000 maquiladoras or export manufacturers located in the vicinity of the US-Mexican border.
