Oil battle sets showdown over China

China National Offshore Oil Corp. of China has bid $18.5 billion to acquire Unocal Corp. of the United States. China is increasingly buying into the American economy and the United States is just as actively investing in China. Washington regulators are currently concerned over China's increased military spending, urging China to revalue its currency and speculating on new tariffs and quotas on Chinese imports.

A kinder, gentler Wolfowitz at World Bank?

Paul Wolfowitz of the World Bank is to preside over the banks first annual international conference. Mr. Wolfowitz was appointed President in June and has taken a low key approach to running the development organization. Mr. Wolfowitz favours a more decentralized World Bank with emphasis on infrastructure and agriculture projects in Africa.
