Oil giants may join European refineries
Article Abstract:
Royal Dutch/Shell Group and Texaco Inc. are said to be discussing merger of their petroleum retailing and refineries' operations in Europe. Observers said such a move reflects on the partnership efforts of the big US oil firms and mark Shell's desire to be in the number two position in all of its markets. There were no details given by the two firms on such a deal. A Texaco spokesman, however, said the firm is interested in any arrangement that would boost the the firm's value for investors. Meanwhile, Shell cancelled its offer for Russian oil firm Rosneft as it would endanger its three-year financial goals.
