On-line capitalism
Article Abstract:
A growing number of small companies are beginning to regard the World Wide Web as an ideal channel through which to sell their shares. This approach was pioneered by beer manufacturer Spring Street Brewing, which raised $1.6 million from selling shares via the Internet in Feb 1996. Small companies believe that using the Internet will allow them to appeal directly to investors and to avoid paying for underwriters. In many cases, these companies' funding needs are too small to be of interest to most underwriters in any case.
