TV Globo commercial director Florisbal Octavio feels that media specialists are predators. Octavio noted that these operators wreck small agencies and slash revenues of media companies. Media specialists have yet to become entrenched in Brazil as in other Latin American countries. Initiative Media Worldwide president Marie-Jose Forrisier indicated that media specialists supply specialized communication services and resources. Advertising agencies cannot provide these, stated Forrisier. In addition, majority of media specialists are actually linked to bigger advertising agencies.

Murdoch stakes out Fox for cash
Article Abstract:
News Corp. intends to float 20% in its US film and TV subsidiary Fox. This may leave Rupert Murdoch with a $4-billion acquisition fund. It could also be indicative of investor and stockbroker requests for a more transparent firm. Murdoch had earlier stated that he wants to let his broadcast and publishing world in the UK grow. Murdoch has the option of venturing further into mainland China or become stronger in the Asia-Pacific. Murdoch could also try pushing into Italy for its Mediterranean links, or Germany.

Media companies are aiming more of their marketing efforts at Hispanics who now number 30 million and have a combined spending power of $348 billion. With the Hispanic community expected to become the biggest minority group by the middle of next century, more media products are being launched that are dedicated to their needs and lifestyle. A study by Time Warner Inc has found that the number of Hispanic media outlets has increased 160% to 700 in decade from 1985.
