Ontario electric utility privatizations finally get under way

Electric utilities in seven Central Ontario municipalities went on the selling block on Mar 8, 1999, beginning what may be a flood of electricity utility privatizations in the coming year. Two-hundred and seventy municipalities own an electric utility in Ontario, with each municipality ranging from 147 to 650,000 customers for a total energy cost to Ontario consumers of $1.5 billion Canadian.

Canada's Hydro Mississauga to be sold
Article Abstract:
The municipal electric utility of the city of Mississauga, Ontario, will be put up for sale in 1999 after a delay of several months. Hydro Mississauga, the utility's official name, as 20,000 commercial customers and 130,000 residential customers, annual revenues of C$450 mil and assets of C$500 mil. The sale is will have two phases and is expected to bring in more than C$750 mil.
