Optimal inspection effort and scheduling for a manufacturing process with repair

Article Abstract:

The inspection and repair tasks for a single stage manufacturing system is assessed. An inspection allocation model is presented to determine the optimal fraction of items to inspect when costs pertaining to inspection, congestion and repair are considered. Optimal process scheduling and repair tasks can be classified into two distinct operations. Due to the linearity of the objective function, an 'all or none' inspection and repair form was observed as the optimal solution.

Optimal recovery strategies for manufacturing systems

Article Abstract:

A generalized model that generates optimal error-recovery policies in automated single-server assembly processes was developed. The model captures the stochastic nature of manufacturing processes when dealing with error recovery using a semi-Markovian decision-process. It was used to determine the optimal policy for operations and the corresponding net earning rate or part throughput for a machining process in which only a portion of errors are recovered.
