Out of fashion: sports cars in America

Automobile manufacturers including General Motors, Chrysler Corp amd Lotus are cutting production of sports cars because sales in 1991 were down 22%. The high cost of sports cars, the recession and the maturing of the baby boom generation are reasons for the sales decline.

Alas, poor Saturn: General Motors
Article Abstract:
The strike against the closure of a small 240 worker dye-making plant owned by General Motors is keeping 30,000 workers out of GM plants. The idling of the workers at the Saturn plant is especially harmful to the company, because it operates on a just-in-time basis.

Getting General Motors going again
Article Abstract:
General Motors showed a profit during the first quarter of 1992 after losing $4.45 billion last year. Much of this, however, was due to its profitable financial, computer and defense businesses, as well as an upturn in US car sales and the easing of the recession.
