Outcomes of international telecommunications acquisitions: analysis of four cases with implications for acquisitions theory
Article Abstract:
Governments have to consider the implications of cross-border telecommunication acquisitions due to the social and economic importance of telecommunications. Analysts have suggested outcomes of horizontal acquisitions. Some, including increased market power, may cause user charges to rise. Others, including increased economic efficiency, may result in reduced prices. A survey of firms which made acquisitions reveals more support for strategic reconfiguration and economic efficiency explanations. Analysis of four cross-border horizontal acquisitions is presented, together with an overview of acquisition activity.
