Over-hyped, but not yet over here
Article Abstract:
Network Computers (NCs) allow systems managers to centralise information and programs for corporate networks, using servers. Supporters of NCs argue that they can cut costs and increase control, but there are doubts about the extent to which costs can be cut. NetPCs have been developed by personal computer producers as an alternative to NCs, and there is little evidence as to the benefits or otherwise of NCs, but NetPCs appear to have a better press.

The copycat with a mind of his own
Article Abstract:
There are strong links between business and universities in the US, but this is not the case in the UK, according to Paul Allaire, chairman of Xerox Corp. UK academics are not particularly interest in using business to make money, and businesses do not necessarily encourage employees to become involved in research work. In the US, a trend is now emerging where researchers are putting pressure on business teams to identify ideas to commercialise.
