Overcoming the improvement paradox
Article Abstract:
Process improvement has become necessary for businesses seeking competitive advantage, but few companies successfully use process improvement tools such as reengineering and total quality management. Research has been undertaken to understand why improvement programmes failed, using multiple data sources. Managers may be unprepared for the interactions of improvement programs, and they need to plan the introduction of a new programme carefully and ensure that staffing, resources and goals are consistent with the improvement half-life process.

Activity-based costing concepts for quality improvement
Article Abstract:
Activity-Based Costing concepts can be used to rank quality improvement efforts and measure quality-related costs. Three levels of activity analysis that can be used to measure the internal costs rising from an inability to service customer requirements are suggested and the use of activity-based costing to determine costs caused by supplier deficiencies is discussed.
