Overview and policy discussion
Article Abstract:
An overview of the Economic Commission for Europe region's economic situation, as of late 1996, is presented. The majority of eastern Europe's economies are very open and increasingly tied to the greater world economy. Following a setback in the last half of 1995, the economic outlook for North America and western Europe has begun improving. A discussion of the issue of adding the eastern European economies to the European Union is included.
