PCS phones get dressed for holidays

Personal communications services phones are preparing for the coming 1998 holiday season, which is expected to contribute highly to the projected 1998 sales of 2.2 million phone units. The leaders in the industry, Motorola, Nokia and Ericsson, are bringing cell phones with such features as longer-lasting batteries, video games and fashionable covers to compete for a higher market share during the key holiday season. Nokia is delivering user-replaceable phone covers for its three models, while Motorola is introducing new models with smaller and longer-lasting batteries as well as a phone with an AM/FM radio. Meanwhile, Ericsson launched a major branding campaign that touts the size, lightness and clarity of its phones.

Purolator taps into employee power

Purolator Courier is supporting its TV ad campaign, created by Toronto, Ontario-based Doner Canada, with an incentive program for its employees to encourage word-of-mouth advertising of Automated Shipping Software, its new product rolled out on Sep. 14, 1998. The new ads, which will run until December 1998, came in both English and French and feature the simplicity of using the software. In addition, the company is also giving its 12,000 employees in Canada the chance to accumulate points as new customers they signed in use the software for the first for shipping orders. Employees will then exchange the points for such items as Timex watches, Famous Players movie passes and Sony Walkmans.
