Article Abstract:
Punjab Tractors Ltd (PTL) has recorded a 28 percent increase in sales and 72 percent rise in net profit during 1997-98. PTL produces the Swaraj brand of tractors. Sales of Swaraj Tractors grew by 22.4 percent to 40,425 units. During 1997-98, PTL sold 192 harvester combines (120 combines in 1996-97). PTL, a zero debt company proposes to undertake a Rs100 crore capital expenditure programme in 1998-99 for enhancing its capacity from 36,000 tractors to 60,000 tractors. The net profit of Punjab Tractors increased by 36 percent at Rs31 crore in the quarter ended December 31, 1998 (Rs22.8 crore in the same period of 1997. Its turnover was Rs239 crore (Rs191.36 crore). Its gross profit rose by 32 percent at Rs45.8 crore. Its depreciation soared by 80 percent at Rs4.1 crore. In the 9 months ended December 31, 1998, its net profit was Rs89.7 crore (Rs64 crore in the same period of 1997). Its profit before tax was Rs126.3 crore (Rs92 crore). It makes tractors. (pn) (kvr)

VST TILLERS TRACTORS ANNOUNCES BONUS

VST Tillers Tractors Ltd of Bangalore has proposed a bonus shares issue in the ratio of one share for every two held. It has also recommended a 20 percent dividend for 1997-98. Its income increased by 22 percent to Rs72.54 crore in 1997-98 against Rs59.56 crore in 1996-97. It posted a profit before tax of Rs5.50 crore from Rs2.76 crore. The company gave an earnings per share of Rs10.53 in 1997-98 against Rs5.64 in 1996-97. (khr)
