Notable deals for 1998 include the 106 million pound management buy-out of steel drum maker and reconditioner, Blagden Packaging.

HSBC Private Equity invested in HCT Shaping Systems of Switzerland in May 1998. HCT makes wire saws for the photovoltaic and semiconductor industries and leveraged recapitalisation was sought in order to expand the company. The deal structure enabled the company's founder Charles Hauser to continue as a key shareholder. A new finance director and managing director were also appointed.
