INDIA'S INSTANT COFFEE SHIPMENTS TO RUSSIA SUSPENDED
Article Abstract:
The sharp devaluation of the rouble has resulted in India withholding its instant coffee shipments to Russia till 1998-end. Currently, India exports nearly 80 percent of its instant coffee production to Russia. Between January 1, 1998 and August 17, 1998, Russia imported 17,205 tonnes of instant coffee. Nestle India Ltd (NIL), India's largest instant coffee exporter, has not only stopped the exports but also production at its units in Nanjangud( Karnataka) and Moga(Punjab). Hindustan Lever Ltd (HLL) has also withheld its shipments to Russia. Also, Russia accounted for 50 percent of India's tea exports during 1997. (ag)

COLOUR-CHEM, CLARIANT TIE-UP STUCK IN INDIA
Article Abstract:
The merger between Colour-Chem and Clariant, which has been implemented smoothly in most countries across the globe, is facing difficulties in India. This is because Clariant (India) has a textile dyes business but Colour-Chem has a non-compete agreement with Dystar (India), a joint venture between Bayer and Hoechst. Colour-Chem, which carries out toll manufacturing for Dystar, has promised not to sell textile dyes. (khr)
