APEDA PLANS TO DEVELOP 62 VALUE-ADDED CENTRES
Article Abstract:
The Agricultural and Processed Foods Export Development Authority (Apeda) intends to set up 62 value-added units in India. These centres offer post-harvest infrastructure facilities. The Government of Netherlands has offered a financial aid of Rs4.3 crore for setting up the pilot projects. The projects are likely to come up in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Jammu & Kashmir where the state governments have evinced interest in implementing these projects. (gs)(m)

Terra Agro Technologies Ltd, a 100 percent export-oriented unit, plans to undertake contract farming on about 200 acres more. It grows vegetables on 700 acres. It would provide seeds and technical assistance to farmers and buy the vegetables back. It has identified 2 vegetables - beetroot and paparika - for contract farming.
