The most sought-after personal organizer is the PalmPilot Professional, costing $360. It is simple to use and is very popular with Internet users. There is also software available to link it to a personal computer. Toshiba's Libretto computer is an excellent buy as it is very powerful, it has a bright screen and a compact keyboard. The Libretto starts at $1,500. Digital cameras do not, as yet, give good-quality images but Fuji DS-5 and Kodak DC210 are both reasonable buys. The best adult computer game is 'Riven'. It is a follow-on to 'Myst' and the graphics are excellent.

Wireless access to computer systems and video is the next big development in telecommunications. Japan is planning to have this facility available by 2000. The development requires higher data transmission speeds than currently available, preferably 128 kbps, and higher than this for two way communications. Japanese cellular-phone operator NTT DoCoMo is at the most advanced stage of development. It is hoping to use wideband-CDMA technology which will allow users to perform multiple tasks simultaneously in their communication link.
