P&G ad highlights rival Colgate

Procter & Gamble (P&G) touts the qualities of rival toothpaste Colgate Total in its latest print advertisements for its own toothpaste, Crest Multicare. The ads, which feature a list of benefits offered by the rival products, is being lauded for emphasizing truth in advertising by admitting a clinical advantage offered by Colgate Total. P&G's ads admit that Total helps prevent gingivitis, a benefit not provided by its own toothpaste product. However, the ads also tout the benefits unique to Crest Multicare, which include better taste and a fresher breath feel.

Ayer CEO Quinlan quits to develop TV talk show
Article Abstract:
NW Ayer's chief executive officer, Mary Lou Quinlan, is resigning her post to become the vice chairman of the MacManus Group. The group is the parent firm of Ayer, one of the oldest advertising agencies in the US. Ayer's president Mary Beth Casey will replace Ms. Quinlan as CEO. Ms. Quinlan's goal at MacManus will be to present herself as the moderator of a "talk-show-style focus" and to transform that into an actual television show. The show will be a research program designed to find out what brands women purchase and the reasons for them doing so.
