The UK market for fresh and dry pasta amounted to 135,000 t in 1997, up 7.1% from 1996. The market is valued at 188 million pounds sterling, a rise of 9.3% from year-earlier period. The increasing willingness of consumers to experiment with new foods is driving market growth, together with the the popularity of hobby-cooking. The dry pasta market has a dominant 64.4% value share of the sector, with fresh pasta's value share of the market rising from 20.3% to 35.6%. It is expected that the pasta market will rise by 29.5% between 1997 and 2002, with dry pasta losing its dominance of the sector.

The UK motorcycle market is expected to grow by value and by volume in 1994-99, although there will be marked differences between the sectors. Sales of custom motorcycles are predicted to rise by 46% by volume over the period, while sports bikes will have a 39% market share in 1999. In 1994, the UK motorcycle market was dominated by Japanese producers, with the four largest producers accounting for 69% of motorcycles registered. Honda alone had a 26% market share.
