Paul Hyett Architects: 10 year review
Article Abstract:
The success of Paul Hyett Architects, founded in Nov 1987, can be largely attributed to the working relationship between Paul Hyett, who has become famous in architectural circles, and Adam Whiteley, who regards himself as more synthetic and analytical than Hyett. They have a collaborative and iterative approach to design. Hyett believes that the practice must change if it is to fully exploit new opportunities. This has prompted him to create Hyett Salisbury Whiteley, which will begin operating on Jan 1, 1998. It will include Ian Salisbury, who is experienced in project and practice management.

Practice group joins big league
Article Abstract:
A group of architectural practices specialising in conservation have joined together to form Acanthus. The group can offer expertise in a wide area and have won a large contract for the restoration of Liverpool's St George's Hall. Fourteen practices belong to Acanthus and pay a flat-rate subscription plus a levy on fee turnover. There is one part-time employee. Altogether Acanthus has 220 architects available and can therefore compete with large firms. Acanthus would like to expand to 20 practices but admission is by invitation.
