President Bush should take a determined approach to negotiating peace talks in the Middle East, since The Arabs and Israelis are presently eager for progress. Israeli president Yitzhak Rabin has suspended Jewish settlements in the West Bank and is willing to grant autonomy to Palestinians.

Talk to Arafat

Yitzhak Shamir should counter the bad effect his expulsion of Palestinian extremists has had on the peace talks by agreeing to talk with the Palestine Liberation Organization head Yasir Arafat. This would show the Palestinians that Israel is willing to recognize their rights.
