Pelagic quotas go 'sky-high'
Article Abstract:
South Africa's pilchard quota for the year 2002 was a whopping 259,000 tons because of its regenerated stocks. The effect of availability of pilchards for only 110 to 120 days in a year is discussed by Chris Gildenhuys of canner Marine Products from the perspective of food processing industry. The other quota regulations in the country related to historically disadvantaged individuals are also discussed.
