Pfizer, Abbott profits increase, but generics damp revenues

Soaring profit increases for the first quarter at Pfizer Inc. of the United States were posted at $4.11 billion from $301 million last year. Revenue was due to tax considerations and lower costs. Abbot Laboratories Inc. also of the United States posted first quarter net profit of $865 million, up 3.2 percent from $838 million last year.

Schering-Plough swings to profit, aided by cholesterol-drug venture

Schering-Plough Corp. of the United States posted $126 million in profit for the fourth quarter with sales up to $2.32 billion. Revenue results were aided by the pharmaceutical companies joint venture with its cholesterol-drug and increased sales of its hepatitis, arthritis and allergy treatments.
