Elan shopping spree in U.S. nets Dura Pharmaceuticals

Irish drug manufacturer Elan Corp. has agreed to purchase San Diego-based Dura Pharmaceuticals Inc. in a stock swap worth $1.8 billion (Euro2.1 billion). The acquisition would boost Elan into the respiratory drugs and antibiotics markets, and also double the size of the company's U.S. sales force.

Pfizer to sell incontinence drug to defuse competition concerns
