Philippine tip: stay agile: buy a bit in 1998, but be ready for volatility
Article Abstract:
Investment advisers maintain that the Philippines' outlook for 1998 is better than its Asian neighbors but volatility is still rampant. Analysts maintain that the best buys would be Manila Electric, Philippine Long Distance and Telephone Co (PLDT), Ionics Circuit and Music Corp. Analysts maintain that PLDT is a better preformer than its counterparts and that Manila Electric stands to gain 10% in 1998. Analysts add that both Ionics and Music are export oriented companies and are thus unaffected by devaluations.

Redrawing the growth map
Article Abstract:
Economists maintain that Asia will bounce back after the economic crisis but the next economic boom will be worldwide and that competition for foreign investments and export markets will be fierce. Economists expect that each region will produce winners and losers as determined by their ability to spruce up indicators. The costs of repairing the damage done by the Asian contagion would also have to be factored in competitiveness measures.
