Pioneer agrees to buy Third Avenue fund

Pioneer Group Inc. has reached an agreement to acquire the Third Avenue High Yield Fund. The fund is valued at $8.8 million (8.3 million euros). Pioneer also hired the fund's portfolio manager, Margaret Patel. The move is an attempt by Pioneer to strengthen its bond fund operations. Third Avenue's shareholders and Board of Trustees, along with Pioneer's trustees, must give their approval before the deal can be implemented.
